Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday praised DMK MP Kanimozhi for her widely appreciated response on the national language of India during an interaction with the Indian diaspora in Spain.
Kanimozhi, who leads the all-party parliamentary delegation to Spain, was asked about India’s national language. Her reply has since gone viral, earning applause for its inclusive tone.
“The national language of India is unity and diversity. That is the message this delegation brings to the world, and that is the most important thing today,” she said, highlighting India’s multilingual character.
CM Stalin took to the social media platform X to congratulate her. “I am proud of Kanimozhi for speaking Tamil Nadu’s language of love and unity, as the voice of India,” he wrote.
He further added that her words have struck a chord across the country and beyond.

The remarks come at a time when language politics and the issue of Hindi imposition have returned to public debate.
Tamil Nadu, led by the DMK, continues to resist any move to declare Hindi as the national language of India.
The State supports recognition of all Indian languages with equal respect.
The Constitution of India does not declare any single language as the national language. It recognises 22 official languages under the Eighth Schedule.
Kanimozhi, MP from Thoothukudi, is well-known for her work on linguistic rights, social justice, and gender equality. Her statement in Spain has been shared widely by politicians, activists, and public figures.
The delegation’s visit to Spain also seeks to communicate India’s stance on Operation Sindoor — the cross-border strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and PoK — and its firm position against terrorism.
