India’s Southwest monsoon recorded substantial progress on Monday, extending into the remaining parts of Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and the west-central Bay of Bengal.

The monsoon also covered additional areas of Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The current northern limit of the monsoon passes through Harnai, Solapur, Hyderabad, Bhadrachalam, Koraput, Phulbani, Ranchi, Jamui and Muzaffarpur.

The IMD stated that favourable conditions could support further advancement across parts of the central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and sections of Chhattisgarh during the next four to five days.

During the past 24 hours, several regions received significant rainfall.

Assam recorded heavy to very heavy showers, ranging from 12 cm to 20 cm at isolated locations.

Coastal Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and parts of Tamil Nadu also witnessed heavy precipitation.

Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 60-100 kmph affected parts of east Rajasthan, Telangana, Odisha and west Madhya Pradesh.

The IMD has forecast isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall across sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya over the next six to seven days.

Widespread rainfall is likely over the Northeast, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and adjoining regions.

The department also expects heavy showers in Bihar, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Upper-air circulations over Maharashtra and Punjab, along with a western disturbance over north Pakistan, continue to influence weather patterns.

The IMD warned fishermen against venturing into vulnerable sea areas until June 20 and advised farmers to ensure proper drainage.

Authorities also urged residents to remain alert during thunderstorms and heatwave conditions.
