Sources Confirm Arrest of Sheikh Shahjahan, Primary Suspect in Sandeshkhali Case

Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan, the prime suspect in the Sandeshkhali case, has been apprehended, according to sources within the party. Shahjahan and his cohorts stand accused of committing sexual offenses against women and engaging in land usurpation in Sandeshkhali.

Shahjahan Sheikh was taken into custody around midnight in the North 24 Parganas district by a specialized team from the Bengal police. He had evaded capture for a period of 55 days.

Officials revealed that the team had been closely monitoring Shahjahan’s movements for several days leading up to his arrest.

Sandeshkhali, situated in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, has been gripped by extensive protests against the Trinamool Congress figurehead Shahjahan Sheikh this month. A segment of women in the area is demanding justice over alleged abuses committed by the TMC leader.

A significant number of women in Sandeshkhali have accused Trinamool Congress stalwart Shahjahan Sheikh and his associates of coercive “land-grabbing and sexual assault.” The leader, who had been on the run since January 5, has previously been implicated in numerous criminal cases, including the murder of three BJP workers in 2019.

The Enforcement Directorate has leveled accusations of money laundering against Sheikh Shahjahan of ration and land scams. Additionally, there have been allegations of violence against employees of the power department in West Bengal, resulting in an FIR being lodged against him.
