Sonia Gandhi, Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson, left Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Thursday after doctors treated her for a stomach ailment.
Ganga Ram Hospital chairman Dr Ajay Swaroop confirmed that Sonia Gandhi is stable and has been discharged. She was admitted on 15 June due to an abdominal infection.
Doctors S Nundy and Amitabh Yadav, who treated the 78-year-old leader, said they managed her condition with medication.
“Her condition improved with conservative treatment. She will continue treatment as an outpatient and remain under close observation,” they said.
This was Sonia Gandhi’s second hospital visit this month. On 7 June, doctors admitted her to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) in Shimla. She had reported restlessness while in Himachal Pradesh.
Doctors at IGMCH said her blood pressure was slightly high but under control. Naresh Chauhan, Principal Advisor (Media) to the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, said she had come in for a routine check-up due to minor health issues.
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu cut short his Una visit and rushed to Shimla after learning about her condition.
Sonia Gandhi’s discharge came as her son, Rahul Gandhi, celebrated his 55th birthday on 19 June. Rahul, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, received greetings from leaders across party lines.
The news of Sonia Gandhi’s recovery added to the Gandhi family’s celebration. Her improved health brought relief after weeks of concern.
Doctors expressed confidence in her condition and planned to monitor her recovery through outpatient care.
