Snowfall and light rain to be witnessed in northern region, says IMD report

Snowfall & rain to be observed in northern region

Amidst the biting cold wave, snowfall and rain are predicted in the northern region. Trains have been delayed from their scheduled time due to low visibility in the region.

Today’s Weather Report: 20 January 2023

Scattered snowfall or rainfall is forecast over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.

Isolated snow or rain is likely over Arunachal Pradesh.

Isolated rainfall may occur over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab.

Dense fog is possible in isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Odisha, East Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh.

Air quality is expected to be very poor in Northern, Central, and Eastern India and poor in Northeastern and Southern India.

IMD Report

In a weather report, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted light rainfall in north Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on January 20, 2023 (Friday).

Another active Western Disturbance that is likely to affect the Western Himalayan Region, may bring in light to moderate rainfall and snowfall over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad during January 20-22.

The weather agency has predicted rainfall and snowfall activities over the above-mentioned regions likely increase during January 23-26.

The India Meteorological Department stated that there is the minimum temperatures would rise by about 2 degrees Celsius over several areas in Northwest India.

Heavy Snowfall in Joshimath

Ahead of the prediction, Uttarakhand’s Joshimath experiences heavy snowfall in the area.

In a tweet, news agency ANI wrote, “#WATCH | Joshimath in Uttarakhand receives heavy snowfall.”

Trains Delayed Due To Heavy Fog

Passengers suffered train and flights delay. While taking Twitter, news agency ANI informed about the delay of the train status. ANI wrote, “16 trains running late in the Northern Railway region due to fog: Indian Railways”
