SN Khandelwal , an 80-year-old writer, has authored over 400 books, leaving an indelible mark on Hindi literature. Despite his prolific contributions, he now lives in an old age home, dedicating his life to writing and spirituality.
Khandelwal, who failed his Class 10 exams, began writing at 15. His first book, written at the encouragement of Nagar ji, earned him a certificate of appreciation. Since then, he has penned monumental works, including Padma Purana, Matsya Purana (2,000 pages), five volumes of Shiva Purana, and over 300 books on Tantra. He has also translated texts into Assamese and Bengali.
Currently, he is translating the Narasimha Purana into Hindi. This rare text, previously unavailable in India, required him to procure a copy from England.

A Life Dedicated to Ancient Texts
Khandelwal has translated 16 Mahapuranas and 21 Upapuranas. Remarkably, he writes everything by hand, avoiding modern technology. His daily routine includes bathing three times and relying on ashram meals. He funds new publications solely from book sales, refusing external promotions or launches.
Estranged from Family
Despite belonging to a wealthy family with property worth crores in Varanasi’s Lanka area, Khandelwal has chosen a life of detachment. His son lives with in-laws, and his daughter, a Supreme Court lawyer, does not visit. He considers the ashram his home and its residents his family.
A Humble Creator
Khandelwal declined the Padma Shri, stating he did not feel deserving. His dedication to literature and spiritual pursuits exemplifies a life driven by creativity and inner fulfillment.
Shrinath Khandelwal’s journey proves that true satisfaction comes not from wealth but from meaningful work and devotion.
