Slipper Hurled At Pappu Yadav During Press Conference; MP Alleges Knife Attack Bid

Independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, on Sunday alleged a major security lapse after a man hurled a slipper at him during a press conference. The incident took place at his official residence on Pandara Road in New Delhi.

The Purnia MP later claimed that another man had brought a knife to the venue with the intention of attacking him.

The incident occurred while Yadav was interacting with reporters at his official residence. It came a day after a police complaint was filed against him, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and others.

The complaint relates to a skit on the Parliament premises concerning Ram Mandir donations.

According to the MP’s supporters, the slipper was thrown by a man identified as Sumit from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.

Soon after the incident, Yadav’s supporters assaulted the accused before police intervened and detained him.

Sumit later claimed he was angered by the MP’s alleged disrespectful remarks against saints.

Zaid Khan, Media Convenor to Pappu Yadav, said the disruption began when three to four people started questioning the MP during the press conference. He alleged that one of them suddenly hurled a slipper. Another was seen taking out a knife. The incident triggered panic at the venue.

According to Khan, people present overpowered the man allegedly carrying the knife, leading to a commotion. He added that although Yadav’s supporters attacked the slipper thrower, the MP intervened, shielded him and handed him over to the police.

Later, Yadav alleged that anti-social elements had threatened him since he raised the issue of alleged donation theft in Ayodhya. He also claimed that someone had announced a bounty of up to Rs 51 lakh against him. He linked the announcement to his remarks on the issue.
