PM Modi on Tuesday recalled a girl from a poor tribal family whom he encouraged to attend school during his tenure as then Gujarat Chief Minister. Years later, she returned with an old photograph and proudly told PM Modi that she had become a nurse.
Speaking at a public meeting in Navsari district, PM Modi remembered his early years as Gujarat Chief Minister. He spoke about the Kanya Kelavani campaign, which promoted girls’ education across Gujarat.
The Prime Minister said he travelled from village to village during scorching summer days. He recalled visiting villages on June 13, 14 and 15, when temperatures touched 44 degrees Celsius. Many villages lacked regular electricity and even fans.
During the campaign, PM Modi said he held girls’ hands and took them to school. He persuaded parents to educate their daughters.
Such efforts received little newspaper or television coverage, but PM Modi continued the visits every year.
The Prime Minister later met some of those girls as adults. They carried old photographs and recalled how He had taken them to school.
One girl proudly told PM Modi that she had become a nurse and was studying in her final year.
PM Modi said such moments offered fulfilment beyond years spent as then Chief Minister or Prime Minister. He said seeing a poor tribal girl succeed after 18 or 20 years brought profound satisfaction.
Prime Minister Modi said consistent public service often produces results years later. He added that people’s blessings provide strength, inspiration and motivation to work harder.
The Prime Minister linked the experience to the wider purpose of political organisations, public office and government: serving citizens.
