She Lost Her Slippers, Not Her Hope: Mother Runs 3 Km Barefoot For Daughters’ Education

A 47-year-old woman from Maharashtra has become an example of parental determination after she ran a 3-km race barefoot to earn money for her daughters’ education.

Ramabai Ranvir, a widow from Potra in Hingoli district, works in the kitchen of Dnyandeep Academy in Beed. She prepares more than 200 chapatis each day and earns around Rs 9,000 a month.

Despite having no experience in long-distance running, Ramabai joined a race after learning that the winner could receive a cash prize. She initially expected Rs 3,000 but eventually received Rs 5,000 for her effort.

Ramabai reportedly continued running after her slippers came off during the event. She completed the distance barefoot, driven by her determination to secure money for her daughters’ education.

Ramabai used part of the prize money to purchase notebooks and pens for her younger daughter, Pooja, while she planned to reserve the remaining amount for her other daughter, Arti.

Ramabai took up her current job after her husband died in 2012. Her income supports the education of her two daughters while covering essential household expenses. Her story highlights the financial challenges faced by families who struggle to meet educational costs despite their strong commitment to keeping their children in education.

Ramabai’s determination deserves recognition, but her experience raises broader concerns about the pressures families face while funding education.

Ramabai Ranvir’s story serves as a reminder that parents should not have to endure extreme financial hardship to provide basic educational opportunities for their children. It underlines the need for stronger support systems that can make education more accessible to economically vulnerable families.
