Shashi Tharoor
Congress Member of Parliament, Shashi Tharoor, has shared his perspective on the special session of Parliament, expressing some confusion over its necessity. Tharoor noted that many of the bills the government had been discussing could have been introduced at a later time. However, he suggested that the government’s true intent might be to create a memorable moment out of the transition from the old Parliament building to a new one. Tharoor acknowledged the government’s objective in this regard.
On the final day of parliamentary proceedings in the old building, Tharoor reflected on the emotional aspect of leaving an institution steeped in history and memories. He concurred with Prime Minister Modi’s sentiment that the old building held numerous memories and a rich history, making the transition a poignant moment. Tharoor expressed hope that the new Parliament building would offer improved facilities, modern technology, and enhanced convenience for its members.
The special session of Parliament, spanning five days, commenced on a Monday at 11 am. The sessions took place in the old Parliament building, with plans for MPs to transition to the new building on the following day. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi addressed the media outside Parliament, highlighting the significance of the special session. He called upon MPs to commit to working towards India’s development, aiming to transform it into a developed nation by 2047.
