NCP President Sharad Pawar delivered a strong message at a joint rally of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on Friday, stating that the threat to democracy in India persists under the current NDA government.
Addressing a gathering of MVA supporters, Pawar stated, “The crisis is not over in the country. There was a threat to dilute the Constitution before the Lok Sabha election and that is still not over under the NDA government. They (those in power) have a problem with the Constitution because of their ideology.”
Pawar also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his absence during the recent Parliament session, emphasizing the importance of the Prime Minister’s presence in the House.
He criticized the seating arrangement at Thursday’s flag hoisting, placing Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), in the second row.
Pawar emphasized the need to respect the LoP position, noting that when he served as LoP, he sat alongside Cabinet ministers.
He further highlighted the importance of respecting the institution by referencing Sushma Swaraj, who, as LoP during Manmohan Singh’s tenure, received a front-row seat with the Cabinet.
Pawar also took aim at the state government, urging the public to consider a change in leadership if they desire a transformed Maharashtra.
“The MVA successfully blocked the passage of the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill 2024, which proposed severe penalties for street protests. The MahaYuti’s efforts to push this through were thwarted, thanks to our collective stand,” he added.
Pawar further assured that the MVA partners and supporting parties will receive respect and promised that Maharashtra will see a responsible government if the coalition returns to power.
Sule Criticizes MahaYuti Government For Prioritizing Votes Over Genuine Relationships
In her speech, NCP MP Supriya Sule criticized the MahaYuti government, accusing it of prioritizing votes over genuine relationships.
“MahaYuti has blurred the lines between love and transactions. Their only concern is votes, not the well-being of the people. They launched schemes like Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana after their poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections, but where was this concern before? The current government has failed to understand this,” Sule remarked.
Sule’s remarks highlighted the perceived opportunism in the state government’s policies, particularly in relation to their outreach to women voters.
The rally showcased the unity within the MVA as they gear up for the upcoming elections, with leaders pledging to work together to present a united front against the ruling alliance.
