On Friday, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Shambhavi Choudhary paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, accompanied by her family.
During the meeting, she presented a portrait of Babu Jagjivan Ram, former Deputy Prime Minister of India and one of the key figures associated with India’s 1971 war victory.
Widely remembered for his pivotal role during the Indo-Pak war and his contribution to India’s defence and social justice movements, Babu Jagjivan Ram remains a symbol of national pride and Dalit empowerment.
Posting on social media platform X, Choudhary described the meeting as ‘respectful and affectionate’, adding that she received guidance and blessings from the Prime Minister.
She further emphasised her reverence for Babu Jagjivan Ram, referring to him as a ‘hero of the 1971 war’, and appreciated the opportunity to highlight his legacy in the presence of the country’s top leadership.
In a parallel development, Prime Minister Modi invited Indian citizens to take part in shaping the national narrative by suggesting themes and ideas for his upcoming Independence Day address on 15 August.
Using the MyGov platform and the NaMo App, citizens can now submit their thoughts for inclusion in the annual Red Fort speech.
Taking to social media, the Prime Minister posted, “As we approach this year’s Independence Day, I look forward to hearing from my fellow Indians! What themes or ideas would you like to see reflected in this year’s Independence Day speech? Share your thoughts on the Open Forums on MyGov and the NaMo App…”
This citizen-driven approach reflects the Prime Minister’s emphasis on inclusive governance, where public participation plays a crucial role in nation-building.
Every year, the Prime Minister of India delivers a speech from Delhi’s Red Fort, outlining achievements, challenges, and the future roadmap for the country.
In 2024, the 78th Independence Day address revolved around ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’, aiming to establish India as a developed nation by the 100th year of its independence.
This year, the initiative to crowdsource themes is expected to further deepen democratic participation, as citizens contribute to key national reflections and aspirations.
The initiative exemplifies PM Modi’s long-standing strategy of engaging the public through digital platforms and open forums.
The twin developments — Shambhavi Choudhary’s heartfelt tribute to a revered freedom fighter and the Prime Minister’s invitation for participatory input — come at a time when India is preparing for its 79th Independence Day.
While the former honours the country’s historical roots and unsung heroes, the latter seeks to inspire future generations by fostering a collective vision and dialogue.
Together, they mark a moment that is both reflective and forward-looking — a blend of national pride and democratic empowerment.
