A large-scale anti-terror operation is underway along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district, security forces confirmed on Saturday.
The operation began following reports of suspected terrorist movement in the Jogwan forest area. Officials said locals alerted the police after spotting three to four armed suspects in the region on Thursday. Security forces swiftly cordoned off the area and launched the operation.
Crackdown On Terror Ecosystem
Authorities have intensified efforts against terrorists, overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has instructed security forces to dismantle the terror ecosystem entirely in Jammu and Kashmir.

These directives come after a series of terror attacks that followed peaceful Lok Sabha and legislative assembly elections in the Union Territory.
Recent Attacks Highlight Growing Threat
The recent escalation in violence has raised concerns. On October 20, 2024, two terrorists—one a foreign mercenary—attacked a workers’ camp in Gagangir, Ganderbal district. The incident left seven dead, including six non-local workers and a local doctor.
Just days later, on October 24, terrorists ambushed an army vehicle in the Botapathri area of Gulmarg, killing three soldiers and two civilian porters.
On November 2, a grenade attack at Srinagar’s busy Sunday Market near the Tourist Reception Centre claimed the life of a mother of three and injured nine civilians.

The ongoing anti-terror operation in Akhnoor reflects the government’s resolve to tackle terrorism head-on. With stepped-up actions, security forces aim to restore peace and safety across the region.
