Security Alert Issued After Bomb Threat Email At Delhi Secretariat

Security agencies initiated a large-scale operation at the Delhi Secretariat after a bomb threat email was received.

Security Alert Issued After Bomb Threat Email At Delhi Secretariat

Authorities reported that the Delhi Secretariat received an email on Thursday warning about a possible explosive device on the premises, prompting an immediate security alert. Officials promptly informed the police, resulting in a rapid response.

Police teams, along with fire services, bomb disposal units and sniffer dog squads, arrived at the location and initiated a comprehensive search of the premises. Personnel are thoroughly inspecting the area to ensure there is no danger.

“Currently, nothing suspicious has been found,” the police said.

Officials further stated that the email included a reference to the term ‘Khalistan’, which has added to the seriousness of the investigation. Authorities are working to identify the source of the message as the search operation continues.

This development comes shortly after a security lapse at the Delhi Legislative Assembly earlier this week, raising concerns about safety measures.

On April 6, an individual drove through a high-security gate at the Assembly complex and initially managed to escape without interception. The individual was later identified as Sarabjit Singh.

Investigators found that Singh had travelled by car from Pilibhit to Chandigarh and then onwards to Delhi. Within a few hours, the Delhi Police located and detained him in North Delhi. The vehicle used to break through Gate No 2 was also confiscated.

Court Proceedings and Ongoing Inquiry

A Delhi court later remanded Singh to eight days in police custody after he was presented before a Judicial Magistrate. Investigators are examining the possibility of a wider conspiracy, including how he gained entry and whether others were involved.

Police informed the Tis Hazari Court that they have not yet recovered the accused’s mobile phone, which he allegedly discarded. Officials have also suggested that Singh may be mentally unstable. However, his legal representative opposed the request for custody, stating that Singh is undergoing treatment.

The lawyer added that Singh had travelled suddenly to Chandigarh to visit his sister and had also visited a gurdwara. The defence argued that he may have entered the Assembly complex under the mistaken belief that it was a gurdwara.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into both the bomb threat email and the earlier security breach. They are also maintaining heightened vigilance across key locations.
