Second Bike Recovered In Chandranath Rath Murder Probe As SIT Expands Investigation

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the West Bengal Police has recovered a second motorcycle believed to have been used in the murder of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant of Suvendu Adhikari.

Investigators traced the motorcycle to an abandoned location near a railway gate in Barasat on Friday. Rath was shot dead in Madhyamgram two days earlier.

Earlier, police had recovered another motorcycle near the crime scene at Doharia crossing, where Rath was attacked on the night of May 6.

Initial reports had suggested that only one motorcycle was involved in tracking Rath’s vehicle. Investigators, however, now believe two motorcycles were used during the operation.

Police had also earlier seized the four-wheeler that allegedly intercepted Rath’s vehicle moments before the shooting.

According to investigators, the car blocked Rath’s path. The motorcycle-borne attackers then approached and fired multiple rounds at close range before escaping.

Despite recovering the vehicles allegedly linked to the crime, police have not yet made any arrests.

Rath was attacked at around 10:30 PM while returning home after attending a BJP programme in Madhyamgram. His driver, Buddhadeb Bera, also sustained bullet injuries in the firing and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kolkata.

Fake Number Plates Under Scanner

Investigators have already confirmed that the number plates attached to the four-wheeler and the first recovered motorcycle were fake.

Police suspect that the second motorcycle may also have been using forged registration plates.

According to sources in the state police, the nature of the attack suggests the killers carefully planned the operation in advance. Sources also said the attackers had likely monitored Rath’s movements for a considerable period.

Officials also suspect that the shooter was professionally trained. Investigators pointed to the precision of the attack as one reason for the suspicion. They also noted that the assailants escaped quickly after firing nearly 10 rounds at close range.
