The Supreme Court will hear BRS leader K Kavitha’s bail pleas on Tuesday, as she faces corruption and money laundering charges related to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam.
According to the Supreme Court’s causelist, a bench led by Justice BR Gavai will reconvene on 20 August to consider the case.
Last week, the bench, which also includes Justice KV Viswanathan, decided to review Kavitha’s petitions and requested responses from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The court, however, declined to provide any interim relief without hearing from the investigative agencies.
This development follows the same bench’s decision on 9 August to grant bail to senior AAP leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in both CBI and ED cases tied to the same liquor policy scandal.
Kavitha, the daughter of BRS chief and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, previously faced rejection of her bail request by the Delhi High Court on 1 July.
Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma of the Delhi High Court noted that evidence gathered during the investigation indicated Kavitha’s role as a key conspirator in the creation and execution of the now-defunct excise policy.
Kavitha’s earlier attempts to secure bail were denied by a special court on May 6. She was initially arrested by the ED and subsequently by the CBI on April 11 while she was in Tihar Jail.
