The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Tamil Nadu government and others in response to a plea challenging the alleged oral order banning the live telecast of the “Pran Prathishta” of Lord Ram at Ayodhya in temples across Tamil Nadu. The state government denies that there are no such restrictions and no ban on the live telecasts, poojas, archanas, annadhanasm, and bhajans during the “Pran Prathishta” of Lord Ram at Ayodhya. The government claims that the plea is politically motivated.
In response, the Supreme Court has advised the Tamil Nadu government that permission cannot be denied solely on the grounds that other communities reside in the locality. The court emphasizes that society is homogeneous, and the government should not prevent activities based solely on the presence of other communities.
Speaking of, a plea was filed against the Tamil Nadu government’s order, which reportedly prohibited the live telecast of the “Pran Prathishta” of Lord Ram at Ayodhya in temples across the state. The government had also allegedly banned various religious activities, including poojas, Archana, Annadanam (poor feeding), and bhajans during the event. The plea argues that such arbitrary exercise of power by the state government, through police officials, violates fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution.
