The Supreme Court has extended the stay on the arrest of Malayalam actor Siddique for two weeks in connection with a sexual harassment case. Siddique approached the Supreme Court after the Kerala High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea.
Court Grants Two Weeks for Response
A bench of Justices Bela Trivedi and S.C. Sharma will hear the case again after two weeks. Siddique requested time to file a response to the status report submitted by Kerala Police, who have opposed his anticipatory bail. The actor is facing charges under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Allegations Follow Hema Committee Report
An FIR was filed against Siddique in August after an actress accused him of harassment. The allegations surfaced after the Justice Hema Committee report revealed instances of exploitation of women in the Malayalam cinema industry. Several actors and directors are under investigation, with a seven-member Special Investigation Team now probing these cases. Siddique has denied the claims, calling them baseless and contradictory.
