Prahlad Joshi, the outgoing Union Minister, is poised to assume another significant role in the Union Cabinet under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Joshi, aged 62, held portfolios including Mines, Coal, and Parliamentary Affairs in Modi 2.0.
He is known for his close ties with BJP national leadership and Sangh Parivar. Joshi secured his fifth consecutive term from the Dharwad Parliamentary seat.
Joshi’s association with RSS shaped his political journey. He has remained undefeated in the Dharwad Lok Sabha seat since 2004. He has been elected for the fifth consecutive term from the Dharwad Parliamentary seat and won with a margin of 97,324 votes against Congress candidate Vinod Asooti.
Prahlad Joshi gained prominence during the Idgah Maidan controversy in Hubballi in the early 1990s, leading the rise of the BJP in Dharwad, north Karnataka and subsequently in the rest of the state. Joshi was at the forefront at that time as the President of the Rashtra Dhwaj Gourav Rakshana Samithi.
Joshi’s activism extended to various movements, including the Save Kashmir Movement.
Speaking on atrocities against women and children, Joshi was a member of the Indian Parliamentary delegation during the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly in December 2008.
He held key positions within the BJP, becoming the Dharwad District President and later serving as Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Coal, and Mines.
He represented India in international forums, advocating against atrocities on women and children, and for political settlements in Sri Lanka.
