External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay in France from Thursday to Friday to take part in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, according to an official statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Invited by Jean-Noel Barrot, France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jaishankar will engage in deliberations with partner countries and hold bilateral discussions with counterparts from participating nations.
The meeting will focus on key global issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, reconstruction efforts, maritime security, and reforms to strengthen multilateral governance, as outlined by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
Spokesperson Pascal Confavreux highlighted that the ministerial discussions follow informal consultations alongside the UN General Assembly and will prepare the ground for the upcoming G7 Leaders’ Summit in Evian, scheduled from 13 to 15 June.
Sessions will address immediate crises and long-term structural challenges, emphasising actionable outcomes.
Dedicated discussions on Ukraine will cover reconstruction, nuclear safety, humanitarian demining, and funding mechanisms, with institutions like the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development expected to play a key role in mobilising investments.
Maritime security and supply chain resilience will also feature prominently, alongside dialogue on ensuring freedom of navigation and strengthening global governance frameworks to address emerging cross-border threats.
In a broader outreach initiative, several non-G7 nations, including India, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and Ukraine, will participate, while side events and working lunches will provide further opportunities for in-depth exchanges among ministers.
