External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a detailed telephone conversation with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of Iran, on Tuesday to discuss the latest developments in the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

The call reflects India’s ongoing diplomatic engagement as tensions remain high in the region.

The ongoing conflict refers to the intensified hostilities in West Asia, including reported military actions such as US strikes on Iranian assets and broader regional confrontations involving the United States and Israel.

These developments have raised global concerns over regional stability, energy supply disruptions and the safety of civilians and expatriates living in the region.

India has consistently called for de-escalation, restraint, dialogue and diplomacy while focusing on the protection of Indian nationals and ensuring stable energy supplies.

Jaishankar’s post also highlighted the agreement between both sides to maintain close communication, underlining the importance attached to bilateral relations despite the volatile regional situation.

Longstanding India–Iran Ties

India and Iran share longstanding ties, including cooperation in trade, energy and connectivity initiatives such as the development of the Chabahar Port.
