On Monday, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) issued a strong condemnation of recent brutal killings in Manipur. The organization urged swift action to address the ongoing conflict that has devastated the state.
In a statement, the Sangh denounced the ‘inhuman and merciless’ acts of violence, particularly the killing of women and children after alleged captivity.
The ongoing unrest, which began in May of last year, has stretched into its 19th month, leaving communities divided and countless lives disrupted.
The RSS stated, “Due to the ongoing violence, innocent people have immensely suffered. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Manipur strongly condemns inhuman, brutal, and merciless acts of killing women and children after taking them in captivity.”
The Sangh also described the act as cowardly, condemning it as a violation of the principles of humanity and harmonious coexistence.
“The central and state government should ‘sincerely’ resolve the ongoing conflict at the earliest,” the organization added.
The call for action follows a weekend of intense violence, during which more than two dozen properties belonging to politicians and government officials were vandalized by mobs in Imphal East and West districts.
Unrest Erupts Over Discovery Of Six Bodies Near Manipur-Assam Border
This unrest, triggered by the discovery of six unidentified bodies near the confluence of the Jiri and Barak rivers, on the Manipur-Assam border, earlier in the week.
Authorities recovered the bodies of three women and three children, missing since 11 November, on 15 and 16 November.
The victims were reportedly taken from a relief camp in Jiribam district’s Borobekra sub-division.
Meanwhile, the grim discovery has deepened public anger and mistrust, further inflaming tensions between communities.
Manipur Police reported that an encounter on 1 November led to the deaths of 10 suspected militants.
In a separate incident, armed groups allegedly kidnapped 10 people, including women and children, from a relief camp.
Two elderly civilians later found dead, while two individuals managed to escape captivity. However, six others, including three children, remained missing until authorities recovered their bodies.
While some Meitei groups accused Kuki militants of perpetrating the killings, the broader conflict continues to fuel blame, counter-blame, and escalating violence.
