The Rouse Avenue Court has taken cognizance of the supplementary chargesheet filed against BRS leader K Kavita, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail, along with others in the Delhi liquor policy scam case. The court has issued summons to K Kavita, Chanpreet Singh, Prince Kumar, Damodar Sharma, and Arvind Kumar Singh, ordering them to appear on June 3. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed the supplementary charges on May 10.
In the supplementary chargesheet, the ED alleges that Kavita was a key member of the South Group, which is accused of bribing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with Rs 100 crore in exchange for a significant share of liquor licenses in Delhi. The ED has previously stated that Kavita was the main conspirator and beneficiary of the Delhi Excise Policy scam. According to the ED, Kavita struck a deal with then Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Arvind Kejriwal, through which she and other South Group members paid bribes via middlemen and brokers. In return, they gained access to policy-making and received provisions ensuring favorable conditions.
Kavita was produced in court on April 20 after her judicial custody period ended. The court extended her judicial custody until June 3, despite opposition from her lawyer. Her lawyer argued that once the chargesheet is filed and before the court takes cognizance, the judicial custody cannot be extended, and she should be released.
