New Delhi: The Rohini Court will hear a defamation petition on December 18 regarding the BBC documentary ‘India: The Modi Question’. Additional District Judge Ruchika Singla is handling the case. Binay Kumar Singh, a Jharkhand BJP State Executive Committee member and RSS volunteer, filed the petition.
Allegations Against Foreign Entities
The petition names the BBC, Wikimedia Foundation, and Internet Archive as respondents. It requests that summons be issued according to Delhi High Court guidelines, considering the foreign nature of these entities. The petitioner claims the BBC’s January 2023 documentary makes baseless allegations against the BJP, RSS, and Vishwa Hindu Parishad. The documentary discusses violence, alleged systematic rape of Muslim women, and efforts to drive Muslims from Hindu areas.
Court’s Previous Observation
In the last hearing, the court stated that submitting a Vakalatnama is not enough to summon foreign entities. The BJP leader argues that the documentary harms Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s and the RSS’s image. He insists that the defamation case is necessary due to the content’s objectionable nature and its potential to disrupt public peace.
