RJD’s Lalu Yadav Backs Mamata Banerjee For INDIA Alliance Leadership

Along with Lulu Prasad, several other leaders of alliance have supported the idea of changing the leadership. Priyanka Chaturvedi, leader of Shiv Sena (UBT) said that Banerjee’s offer to lead coalition is important, given her contribution to the alliance.

Former Chief Minister of Bihar and Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Lalu Prasad Yadav has advocated the name of Mamata Banerjee to lead the opposition alliance (INDIA alliance).

The development comes after West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee express willingness to lead the INDIA alliance in an interview with a news platform.

Backing the name of Mamata Banerjee for the leadership of opposition alliance, Lalu Yadav said that leadership of INDIA alliance should be transferred to Mamata Banerjee. When asked about Congress’ opposition about the idea, Lalu said, “The Congress’s opposition will not make any difference…She should be allowed to lead the INDIA bloc.”

Along with Lulu Prasad, several other leaders of alliance have supported the idea of changing the leadership. Priyanka Chaturvedi, leader of Shiv Sena (UBT) said that Banerjee’s offer to lead coalition is important, given her contribution to the alliance.

Earlier key leader of INDIA alliance, RJD’s Tejaswi Yadav said that he was fine with any of senior leader heading the coalition. However, he stressed that the decision must be taken through consensus.

Sanjay Raut, key leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), expressed confidence in Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, saying, “no one is questioning Rahul’s leadership”. However, he further emphasized that if any ally member has any idea to strengthen the coalition, they should be explored.

“If allies like the TMC, Lalu Prasad Yadav or Akhilesh Yadav have differing opinions about the INDIA alliance, it is important to listen. INDIA alliance was formed collectively and if anyone has new ideas to strengthen it, they should be considered,” said Raut.

It is important to note that Supriya Sule had also welcomed the idea of Mamata Banerjee leading the coalition. She had earlier expressed her happiness over Mamata Banerjee taking on greater role within the INDIA alliance.
