A resident doctor at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak has been arrested and expelled from the institution for allegedly kidnapping and physically assaulting a first-year dental student. The accused, identified as Maninder Kaushik, an MD (anatomy) student, was arrested on Sunday night after the victim filed a complaint with the police.

According to the complaint, the accused kidnapped the victim from the PGIMS campus and took her to Ambala and Chandigarh, where he physically assaulted her. The police have stated that no evidence of sexual harassment or rape has been found in the investigation so far.
The victim, in a video posted on social media, alleged that the accused had been harassing her for seven months and threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the incident to the college authorities.
The PGIMS authorities took swift action, expelling the accused from the institution and debarring him from entering the college premises. The University of Health Sciences also confirmed the expulsion and ban.
The police are conducting a high-level investigation into the incident, keeping all aspects in mind. The accused and the victim had known each other for several months, according to the police.
Moreover, this incident comes amidst nationwide protests against the murder and rape of a junior doctor in Kolkata, highlighting concerns about women’s safety and harassment.
