Sharda Sinha, celebrated folk singer from Bihar, passed away at AIIMS in Delhi on November 5. She was 72. Known for her melodious renditions of Maithili and Bhojpuri folk songs, Sinha had been battling illness for several days. Born on October 1, 1952, in Hulas village, Supaul district, Sinha showed a passion for music from an early age. She embraced Maithili music traditions after marrying into a family in Sihama village, Begusarai district, and brought these influences into her singing.

Her renditions of Chhath festival songs will echo forever,” he said. He described her death as an “irreplaceable loss” to the music world and extended his condolences to her family and fans.
During her career, Sinha served as Head of the Music Department at Samastipur Women’s College. She recorded hundreds of folk songs that enriched Bihar’s cultural legacy, making her a celebrated figure in Indian folk music.
Her passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Bhojpuri and Maithili music, leaving behind a rich repertoire that will continue to inspire generations.
