The rain, eagerly awaited by residents, came after weeks of intense heatwave conditions in the national capital region (NCR).
June has recorded nine heatwave days so far, a stark contrast to zero such days in the same month in 2023 and 2022.
In 2021, Delhi recorded just one heatwave day in June, according to IMD data.
The heavy rainfall, while a welcome change, led to slowed traffic in several parts of Delhi-NCR.
Commuters faced delays as roads became congested due to the wet conditions.
Earlier in the day, the IMD had also posted, “Light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of Delhi.”

According to the IMD, the change in Delhi’s weather is attributed to a western disturbance, which has brought the much-needed relief from the soaring temperatures.
