Relative of deceased gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed apprehended by UP STF in tax evasion investigation

In a case involving tax evasion totalling over Rs 100 crore, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh Police has detained businessman Qamar Ahmed Kazmi, who is based in Meerut and is related to the late gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed. Officials announced this on Friday.

According to STF Superintendent of Police (SP), Brijesh Singh, Atiq Ahmed’s relative Kazmi has been taken into custody in a case involving over Rs 100 crore in tax evasion.

He went on to say that Kazmi is charged with forging e-way bills to steal more than Rs 100 crore in GST.

The STF is investigating Kazmi’s anti-national affiliations and foreign funding. Kazmi was previously the PRO of the Meerut Development Authority.

With the use of fictitious PAN cards and other documents, Kazmi, the owner and partner of numerous large businesses, including Hotel Broadway Inn, and his associates are accused of causing losses to the government amounting to billions of dollars through the preparation of e-way bills and GST bills.

The senior police official reported that while Kazmi is being questioned, a cell phone, a Mercedes, and some cash have been found on him.

During his interrogation, Kazmi mentioned the following: in addition to his companies, Paragon Industry Limited, Roorkee Haridwar, Micro Glass Industry Gurugram, and GoodX Glass Meerut, he also mentioned Hotel Broadway in Meerut, where a resident of Delhi is a partner.

The SP went on to say that Kazmi had said, “We show the supplies from bogus firms in our firms for our benefit.” But only forged bills are traded, not real supplies.

According to the police officer, Kazmi also revealed during his interrogation that he is related to Akhlaq Ahmed, the brother-in-law of Atiq Ahmed who is incarcerated at the moment.

Kazmi is the subject of a case that has been filed at the Civil Lines police station.

On April 15 of this year, Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf—who have been linked to over 100 criminal cases, including the Umesh Pal murder case—were shot and killed at Prayagraj’s Colvin Hospital.
