Ram Navami Violence: Amit Shah’s Sasaram Visit Cancelled As Section 144 Imposed In Bihar

Amidst the Ram Navami violence, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s event in Bihar Sasaram has been cancelled as the state government has imposed section 144 in the area. As of now, the Bihar police have arrested almost 345 for arson, violence and clashes in Nalanda and Sasaram during the occasion of Ram Navami.

As per the news agency ANI, violence was also reported from Nalanda’s Gagan Diwan area during the Ram Navami procession. Stone pelting and arson of vehicles also occurred during the clashes between the two groups.

Amit Shah Sasaram’s visit cancelled amid clashes

After the government imposed section 144, Bihar NBJP chief Samrat Chaudhary said, “Union Home minister Amit Shah was supposed to come to Sasaram for an event. As the Bihar government imposed Sec 144 we have to cancel the event. How can we hold an event like this?”

Moreover, heavy security has been deployed in the tense areas including Nalanda in the wake of the riots between the two groups.

According to the police officials, they said, “Two FIRs have been registered in Nalanda and Rohtas and 27 and 18 people have been arrested respectively after identifying anti-social elements.”

“Ram Navami procession has been completed in Bihar Sharif and Sasaram. An adequate number of force and magistrate’s deputation is going on at both places. Senior officials are camping at the spot. Social media is being monitored.” the official added.

Police urge residents not to fall into rumours

Ahead of the ongoing clashes, the police have urged the residents not to fall into the trap of rumours.

Taking to Twitter, the Bihar police wrote, “General public is requested not to pay heed to rumours. Cooperate with the police and administration in maintaining peace and order.”

A local administration in Bihar’s Sasaram city imposed Section 144 on Friday after a clash broke out between two groups during Ram Navami procession.

Stone pelting, vehicles vandalized

Taking notes from the situation the police said that several people resorted to stone pelting and also vandalized many vehicles and roadside stalls. After receiving information about the clashes, the police rushed to the spot to control the situation.

While speaking to the media, ADM Chandrashekhar said, “There is tension between both groups and stone pelting also occurred. Some houses were set on fire. The fire is being doused.  The administration came to the spot and calmed them down. The situation is under control now.”

During the clashes, several police personnel also sustained injuries as they tried to control the situation when clashes broke out between the two groups in the city.
