Ram Lalla’s Idol Carved Out Of 2.5 Billion Years Old Stone; Know The Details

New Delhi: On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed a Pran Pratishtha ceremony at the newly constructed Ayodhya temple, marking the idol of Ram Lalla, or the child Lord Ram, coming back to his home. The 51-inch Ram idol was crafted from unique black granite stone that was transported from Karnataka.

“There is no doubt that the stone is 2.5 billion years old,” states HS Venkatesh, the director of the National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM), a national agency that assisted in the stone’s physico-mechanical analysis testing. The nodal organization for testing rocks for Indian dams and nuclear power facilities is the NIRM. Dr Venkatesh says, “The rock is highly durable and resistant to climatic variation and will sustain thousands of years in this subtropical zone with minimum maintenance.”

Ram temple built with best stones and traditional architecture

Following the formation of the world, molten lava cooled to produce the majority of granitic rocks. The granite is an extremely hard substance.

According to Union Science Minister Jitendra Singh, the Ram Temple was built with the best stones and traditional architectural patterns, but it also integrates contemporary science and engineering methods for durability. “It has been designed to last for more than 1,000 years,” he continues. The stone was selected from the Jayapura Hobli hamlet in the Mysuru area, which is renowned for having excellent granite mining.

The rock has witnessed history

The pre-Cambrian epoch, which is thought to have started more than four billion years ago, is when the rock is dated. According to estimates, the earth formed about 4.5 billion years ago. The Ram Lalla’s idol is carved out of black granite stone that has witnessed at least some of Earth’s history.

The earliest people arrived on Earth some 14 million years ago, and modern humans, or Homo sapiens, are a relatively recent species, having only existed for 300,000 years. According to scientific estimates, life first emerged on Earth some 4 billion years ago.
