Mizoram Bridge Collapse
Today, an under-construction railway bridge in Mizoram collapsed, killing at least 17 people. Officials stated that efforts are being made to rescue several more people who are reportedly stuck at the scene. “There were about 35 to 40 construction workers when the bridge collapsed,” they claimed.
About 21 kilometres from Aizawl, in the Sairang area, the incident was recorded.
In addition to expressing his sorrow over the disaster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered compensation amounts of Rs. 2 lakh for each person who perished in the accident and Rs. 50,000 for each person who was injured.

At the scene of the disaster, according to Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, a rescue effort is in progress.
“At least 17 construction workers killed today when an under-construction railway flyover in Sairang, close to Aizawl, collapsed; rescue efforts are ongoing. impacted and deeply grieved by this event. I send my sincere sympathies to all the families of the deceased and wish the injured a quick recovery. I’d want to express my gratitude to everyone who turned out in big numbers to assist with the rescue efforts,” he wrote on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

Northeast Frontier Railway’s head public relations officer, Sabyasachi De, announced that a team of railway officers has been dispatched to the scene and that senior zone authorities will also pay a visit.
