Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accuses the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) of attempting to enforce ‘blind obedience’ across the country. He emphasized the importance of resistance against this trend during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Meghalaya.
Gandhi, in a video shared on social media, expressed concern about universities turning into places of fear and suppression rather than free thought. He said, “Universities, once bastions of free thought and expression, have now been converted to breeding grounds of fear, suppression, and blind obedience.” He further questioned whether the future of India could thrive in such an environment and stressed the significance of political resistance, especially for students.
During an interaction with students, Gandhi challenged the idea of blind obedience promoted by the RSS. He asserted that individual viewpoints should be encouraged, and blind obedience needs to be countered with resistance. Gandhi claimed that Home Minister Amit Shah had prohibited his conversation with students at a university, alleging interference in his engagement with the youth.
Jairam Ramesh, the Congress general secretary, shared a video of the interaction, stating that Gandhi openly addressed various issues, including the atmosphere of fear in universities and youth politics. Ramesh highlighted that Gandhi’s remarks were not specific to the northeast but applicable to universities across the country.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi has taken a planned break after covering Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Cooch Behar in West Bengal. The yatra is set to resume on January 28 with a padyatra in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, continuing on its journey from Manipur to Mumbai.
