Rabi MSP 2027-28: Cabinet Approves Hike For All Six Crops, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Union Cabinet has approved higher Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for all six mandated Rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing season.

The decision aims to strengthen farmers’ incomes and ensure remunerative prices for their produce, with larger increases announced for pulses and oilseeds.

Wheat MSP will rise by Rs 25 to Rs 2,610 per quintal. Safflower will receive the highest increase of Rs 675, taking its MSP to Rs 7,215 per quintal.

The MSP for rapeseed and mustard will increase by Rs 413 to Rs 6,613 per quintal, while lentil MSP will rise by Rs 390 to Rs 7,390 per quintal.

The revisions follow the government’s policy of keeping MSP at least 1.5 times the production cost.

Under the revised structure, wheat is likely to provide a margin of up to 106 per cent over its production cost.

The higher MSP for pulses and oilseeds is intended to encourage farmers to diversify beyond traditional cereal cultivation.

Crops such as lentils, safflower, rapeseed and mustard are receiving greater price support under the latest decision.

The policy seeks to link MSP support with improved farm returns while encouraging a wider mix of crops.

By offering higher support for several Rabi crops, the government aims to make cultivation more remunerative and create greater incentives for agricultural diversification.

The revised MSP rates will apply to the 2027-28 marketing season and cover all six mandated Rabi crops.
