Congress MP from Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, launched a scathing attack on the Central government. She termed its silence over Israel’s military actions in Palestine as ‘shameful’.
She argued that inaction in the face of alleged atrocities constitutes complicity.
Taking to X, Priyanka Gandhi posted, “The Israeli state is committing genocide. It has murdered over 60,000 people, 18,430 of whom were children. It has starved hundreds to death including many children and is threatening to starve millions.”
“Enabling these crimes by silence and inaction is a crime in itself. It is shameful that the Indian Government stands silent as Israel unleashes this devastation on the people of Palestine,” the post added.
Her comments come amid growing criticism from international human rights groups over the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Priyanka Gandhi condemned the killing of five Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza, calling it another heinous crime in Palestine. She said Israel committed ‘yet another heinous crime’ on Palestinian soil by cold-bloodedly murdering five Al Jazeera journalists.
Priyanka Gandhi asserted that the violence and hatred of the Israeli state would never break the immeasurable courage of those who dare to stand for the truth.
She praised the journalists’ commitment to truth in a climate where, she posted, “In a world where much of the media is enslaved to power and commerce, these brave souls reminded us of what true journalism is.”
However, Israel confirmed on Monday that its military had killed the journalists. Israel alleged that Anas al-Sharif led a Hamas cell behind advanced rocket attacks on Israeli civilians and IDF troops.
The Israeli Defence Forces claimed to have Gaza intelligence, including rosters, training lists, and salary records. They said this evidence proved al-Sharif’s integration into Hamas and his ‘military affiliation’.
Israel said a press badge ‘isn’t a shield for terrorism’ and claimed October evidence linked al-Sharif to the militant group.
The statement said Israeli forces killed al-Sharif alongside four colleagues, Ibrahim Zaher, Moamen Aliwa, and Mohammed Noufal. It is alleged that they engaged in hostile activities.
The IDF said this ‘once again confirms’ their terrorist links, which Al Jazeera ‘tried to disavow’.
Furthermore, Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks highlight India’s growing political divide over the government’s stance on the Israel–Palestine conflict.
Opposition leaders are urging the Centre to take a clearer position, aligning with India’s historical support for Palestinian self-determination.
