Previous Governments Handed Over Assam’s Land To Infiltrators, Says PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on previous governments, accusing them of ‘handing over’ Assam’s soil to infiltrators to secure votes, while praising Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for effectively tackling the menace.

Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, PM Modi said infiltration had increased during opposition rule, leading to widespread encroachment by those with no regard for Assam’s history, culture or faith.

The Prime Minister warned that such infiltration damaged the state’s social fabric and posed a serious threat to national security.

PM Modi noted that infiltration had resulted in encroachment on animal corridors, fuelled illegal poaching, and encouraged smuggling and other criminal activities. He expressed concern over demographic imbalance, loss of jobs for local youth, and illegal occupation of tribal land, calling these developments a grave challenge for Assam and the country.

PM Modi lauded the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government for freeing forests, cultural heritage sites and people’s land from encroachments. He said the state’s firm action against infiltration was receiving widespread appreciation and restoring public confidence.

Warning people to remain vigilant, the Prime Minister alleged that the opposition’s sole policy was to protect infiltrators to gain power. He cited Bihar as an example, claiming voters there had decisively rejected such politics.

Earlier, PM Modi performed the bhoomi pujan for the ₹6,950-crore Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, an 86-km environmentally sensitive highway designed to improve connectivity while protecting wildlife. He also flagged off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains, strengthening rail links between the Northeast and northern India.

The Prime Minister said Assam’s rapid development was opening new opportunities for the entire Northeast and giving fresh momentum to the Act East Policy.
