President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound grief over the loss of lives in the tragic bus accident that took place in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district on Monday morning.

Both leaders conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

President Murmu, in a post on X, described the loss as ‘deeply unfortunate’ and extended her sympathies to the families of the victims.

Prime Minister Modi echoed similar sentiments, stating that his thoughts were with those affected by the tragedy.

PM Announces Financial Assistance

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced that an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives.

Additionally, the injured will receive ₹50,000 each to support their medical treatment and recovery.

The accident occurred at around 6:30 AM on the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway near Mirzaguda in Chevella mandal, approximately 60 km from Hyderabad.

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus, travelling from Tandur to Hyderabad, collided with a concrete-laden tipper truck coming from the opposite direction.

Devastating Impact and Rescue Efforts

Eyewitnesses said the truck pierced through the bus, crushing passengers in the first six rows and spilling tonnes of gravel inside.

Eighteen people, including ten women, the bus and truck drivers, and a 10-month-old baby with her mother, lost their lives.

Emergency teams and police personnel faced a gruelling task rescuing survivors trapped under the debris.

Three JCBs were also deployed to cut through the wreckage, retrieve bodies, and evacuate the injured. Many survivors recounted scenes of chaos and panic as the crash unfolded.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed his grief and directed officials to provide immediate relief to victims. He instructed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to promptly shift all injured passengers to hospitals in Hyderabad for advanced medical care.

The Chief Minister also instructed nearby ministers to rush to the site and oversee rescue operations. Furthermore, the state government instructed district authorities to expedite relief measures and maintain constant communication.

Ensuring Accountability and Safety

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to provide the best possible medical care to the injured and ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the collision.

The tragic event has reignited discussions on road safety and the urgent need for stricter transport regulations in Telangana.
