President Murmu Pays Tribute To Armed Forces On Vijay Diwas; Hails Courage And Dedication

President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to the Indian Armed Forces on Tuesday to mark Vijay Diwas. She highlighted their courage, valour, and enduring inspiration to the nation.

Taking to X, President Murmu posted, “On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, I pay my humble respects to the brave sons of Mother India. Their courage, valour, and unparalleled devotion to the motherland have always filled the nation with pride. Their heroism and patriotism will continue to inspire the people of the country.”

The President lauded the Indian Army’s efforts towards achieving ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ through the principle of ‘Swadeshikaran se Sashakstikaran’. This principle focuses on indigenisation leading to empowerment.

This initiative focuses on developing defence equipment and technologies domestically, reducing dependence on imports and enhancing operational effectiveness. It also aims to create a modern, agile, and technologically advanced force.

Collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Indian industry, and institutions such as IITs plays a pivotal role in this endeavour.

Recalling India’s demonstration of self-reliance in Operation Sindoor, President Murmu noted, “In Operation Sindoor, the army has demonstrated self-reliance, strategic resolve, and the effective use of modern warfare techniques, which serves as an inspiration for the entire nation.”

The President further extended her best wishes to all soldiers and their families, concluding with a patriotic salute, “Jai Hind!”

India observes Vijay Diwas annually on December 16 to commemorate its decisive victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war. This victory led to the liberation of East Pakistan and the creation of Bangladesh.

The day also marks the surrender of 93,000 Pakistani soldiers to the Indian Armed Forces and the Mukti Bahini in Dhaka. This remains the largest military surrender since World War II.
