In her address to the nation on the eve of the 80th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu on Friday highlighted India’s rapid and inclusive economic growth over the past decade despite global uncertainties and urged citizens to work collectively towards achieving Viksit Bharat@2047.
President Murmu highlighted welfare schemes focused on women, youth, the poor and farmers, while assuring young people that the government is working to curb irregularities and improve transparency in the examination system following the recent paper leak episode.
The President said India has progressed rapidly over the past 10 years while harmonising development with its cultural heritage.
Highlighting infrastructure development, President Murmu said government efforts have attracted investment, generated employment and contributed to India entering free trade agreements with other countries. She underlined the role of young people in the country’s startup ecosystem and future growth, noting that 65 per cent of India’s population is below 35 years of age.
The President highlighted social welfare achievements, including the claim that more than 25 crore people have moved out of poverty. She said nearly 59 crore people have been connected to the banking system through the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, including more than 32 crore women account holders.
President Murmu highlighted the women’s reservation law and its role in increasing women’s participation in politics. She praised the achievements of girls and women, including their gold medal haul at the Commonwealth Games and their growing representation as fighter pilots.
The President recalled the horrors of Partition and paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for uniting more than 500 princely states. She stressed the importance of environmental conservation to protect natural resources for future generations.
Earlier, President Murmu had extended greetings to citizens in India and abroad on the occasion of the Parsi New Year, Navroz.
