‘Decisive Steps’: President Murmu Highlights Operation Sindoor, Indus Waters Treaty Suspension

President Droupadi Murmu on Friday described Operation Sindoor and the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty as decisive steps taken by India against terrorism and those harbouring terrorists.

In her message to the nation on the eve of the 80th Independence Day, President Murmu recalled the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, and paid tribute to the armed forces for their valour. She said the operation demonstrated the military’s ability to act with precision and conveyed a clear message to terrorists and their supporters that they would face consequences regardless of where they hide.

Referring to the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, the President described the move as a decisive step in India’s national interest, particularly for farmers, in dealing with a country that harbours terrorism.

President Murmu highlighted the end of Maoism as a major national achievement and pointed to inclusive development in areas that were previously strongholds of Maoist rebels. She referred to the recent Bastar Olympics, which saw participation from a large number of sportspersons and featured artists showcasing their talents.

The President praised the growth of India’s sports ecosystem, attributing the improvement in international sporting performances to initiatives such as Khelo India and government investment in sports infrastructure and development.

President Murmu highlighted Jan Bhagidari, or public participation, as an established tradition in India and said the government was advancing national welfare campaigns by involving citizens. She noted growing awareness of cultural pride as a source of national strength and said India was progressing by harmonising its heritage with development.
