Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed deep sorrow over the fatal bus fire in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district that claimed 11 lives. He announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
The incident occurred early on Friday when a Volvo bus, carrying around 40 passengers from Hyderabad to Bengaluru, caught fire after colliding with a two-wheeler near Ullindakonda in Kurnool.
Flames quickly engulfed the vehicle, killing several passengers.
Taking to X, the Prime Minister’s Office stated, “Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
“An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” it further added.
President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President CP Radhakrishnan also expressed grief over the disaster. They described the incident as ‘deeply unfortunate’.
Both extended heartfelt sympathy to the families in mourning.

Vice President Radhakrishnan echoed similar sentiments, posting, “Deeply saddened by the tragic bus fire accident in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the tragic bus fire near Chinna Tekur village in Kurnool district. He offered his condolences to the bereaved families.
The Chief Minister also assured all possible government support to the injured and affected.

The accident took place near Chinnatekur in Kallur mandal when the private bus caught fire after the crash. The vehicle, travelling from Bengaluru to Hyderabad, caught fire, and flames completely destroyed it.
Preliminary details indicate that about 40 passengers were on board.
About 19 passengers broke open the emergency exit and escaped with minor injuries, but flames engulfed the bus and reduced it to ashes within minutes.
State Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy rushed to the spot shortly after the tragedy.
Describing the loss of life as ‘heart-rending’, he directed officials to transfer the injured to Kurnool Hospital and ensure they receive the best possible treatment.
