Prayagraj Railway Division Gears Up For Maha Kumbh With Over 150 Special Trains For Mauni Amavasya

With Mauni Amavasya fast approaching, the Prayagraj Railway Division has announced plans to operate over 150 special fair trains, marking a new milestone in accommodating the vast number of devotees expected for this significant event.

Special trains will run in a direction-wise manner from all nine stations in Prayagraj, ensuring smooth and efficient travel.

To enhance the passenger experience, the division has also implemented color-coded ticketing and designated shelter arrangements.

Record Number Of Special Trains For Devotees

Amit Malviya, Senior Public Relations Officer of the Prayagraj Railway Division, shared that more than 150 special trains will operate on Mauni Amavasya, with most departing from Prayagraj Junction. Additional services will also run from other stations, complementing the regular train schedule.

Malviya emphasized the scale of this operation, noting that running over 150 special trains in a single day is a landmark achievement, far exceeding the 85 trains managed during Mauni Amavasya in the Kumbh of 2019.

This year, the division plans to dispatch a train approximately every four minutes to handle the anticipated surge in passengers.

These preparations demonstrate the Prayagraj Railway Division’s commitment to managing the record number of devotees expected to arrive for Mauni Amavasya during Maha Kumbh 2025.

During the Amrit Snan on Makar Sankranti earlier this year, the division had already set a record by operating 101 fair special trains to accommodate the enormous turnout of devotees.

The upcoming Mauni Amavasya will likely surpass this milestone, with even larger numbers expected.

The Mela Authority predicts that over 10 crore devotees will bathe in the Sangam on Mauni Amavasya, with 10–20% of them anticipated to travel by train.

Notably, during the first Amrit Snan festival on Makar Sankranti, over 3.5 crore devotees took a holy dip at the Sangam, surpassing all expectations.

To date, more than 9 crore devotees have participated in the Maha Kumbh by taking the holy dip.

Preparations are now in full swing for Mauni Amavasya, the largest bathing festival of the Maha Kumbh, which will likely welcome millions of devotees to the sacred waters of the Sangam.
