Prashant Kishor To Make Electoral Debut From Bihar’s Bankipur Bypoll

Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor will begin his electoral career by contesting the upcoming Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar.

Party president Manoj Bharti officially announced his candidature, putting an end to speculation surrounding Kishor’s political plans.

For many years, the BJP has retained the Bankipur Assembly seat, making it one of the party’s safest constituencies in Bihar.

The seat fell vacant after BJP national president Nitin Nabin resigned as an MLA following his election to the Rajya Sabha, prompting the bypoll.

Addressing journalists in Patna, Prashant Kishor said Jan Suraaj would contest the election with complete commitment and determination. He described the by-election as more than a political contest, calling it an opportunity to lay the groundwork for a new political alternative in Bihar.

Kishor said he had dedicated the past four years to building the Jan Suraaj movement and intended to continue working towards transforming Bihar over the next decade. He added that many supporters viewed a victory in Bankipur as a chance to restore momentum to the movement after the setbacks of the 2025 Assembly elections.

Prashant Kishor also thanked party workers, leaders and supporters for placing their confidence in him and entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the campaign.

The Election Commission has scheduled polling for the Bankipur by-election on 30 July, with officials counting the votes on 3 August.

Political parties have stepped up campaign preparations ahead of the contest.

The Congress has already expressed support for Prashant Kishor’s candidature.

Political observers are now watching the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which has yet to reveal whether it will back the Jan Suraaj leader in an effort to challenge the BJP’s dominance in Bankipur.
