Prashant Kishor To Begin Hunger Strike Today Over BPSC Aspirants’ Concerns

Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor will start an indefinite hunger strike on Thursday, escalating his support for Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants. The move comes after growing unrest over alleged irregularities in the 70th BPSC Preliminary Examination held on December 13.

The controversy began when candidates alleged that the exam questions were of substandard quality and closely resembled model papers from coaching institutes. Furthermore, the examination was crucial, offering 2,031 vacancies, including 200 Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and 136 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs).

Initially, Kishor issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Bihar government, urging action on the protesters’ demands. However, as no resolution was reached, he announced a sit-in protest starting January 2. The protesting students insist the exam be cancelled and conducted again.

Expressing solidarity, Kishor declared, “If injustice is done to the students, we will stand with them with full strength.” His support has further amplified the protesters’ cause.

The situation escalated on Sunday during a protest at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, which turned violent. Consequently, police filed an FIR against 700 individuals, including Kishor. The protest, which resulted in a lathi charge, prompted Raj Bhavan to summon senior police and district officials for clarification.

On Monday, BPSC Chairman Ravi Manu Bhai Parmar met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to discuss the issue. However, Parmar categorically stated that the examination would neither be cancelled nor reconducted.

Nevertheless, Kishor and the aspirants remain resolute. Their demands continue to shine a spotlight on the controversy, putting pressure on the government to address the growing dissent.
