Prashant Kishor, political strategist and Jan Suraj Party chief, strongly criticized the police for their actions against students protesting the 70th BPSC examination irregularities. He vowed to file a counter FIR against the police after being booked for allegedly inciting violence.
Kishor announced his intent to approach both the court and the Human Rights Commission. He criticized the government for filing FIRs against protesters.
“I will file cases against the City Superintendent of Police who ordered the lathi-charge,” Kishor said.
Kishor Leads Protest, Denies Inciting Violence
Kishor denied any involvement in the violence. He explained that the lathi charge occurred 45 minutes after he left the protest site. He demanded accountability from the officers involved. Kishor criticized the FIR against 700 people, including himself and students, calling the charges baseless. He demanded the immediate withdrawal of the FIRs.
Kishor led five students in meeting Bihar Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena. They presented a memorandum with five demands, including the cancellation of the examination due to a question paper leak and other irregularities.
“If the demands are not met, I will lead an indefinite dharna in Patna,” Kishor said.
Political Leaders Criticize Kishor’s Role In BPSC Protests
Neeraj Kumar, MLC and spokesperson for Janata Dal (United), criticized Kishor for allegedly misleading students. Kumar said Kishor called students to assemble at Gandhi Maidan but left before the police action, leaving them to face the consequences.
“Kishor, along with opposition leaders, is misleading students and politicizing their grievances,” Kumar said. He labeled Kishor a “teenager in politics,” accusing him of manipulating students for personal gain.
Kumar warned that the FIRs could harm students’ futures. He argued that political figures like Kishor were making the situation worse instead of resolving it.
The protests began on December 13, when candidates at the Bapu Examination Centre boycotted the BPSC Preliminary Test due to delayed question papers. Videos showing mobile phone use and poor security further fueled the protests. The BPSC canceled the exam at the Bapu Centre, but students demanded the cancellation across all centres due to alleged irregularities.
On Sunday, police baton-charged and used water cannons as the students marched toward the Chief Minister’s residence under Kishor’s leadership. Several students were injured in the clashes. The protest, now in its 12th day, has gained support from political figures, student leaders, and coaching operators.
