Authorities in Coimbatore have enforced stringent security arrangements ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Sunday, as he passes through the city en route to campaign for the National Democratic Alliance in neighbouring Kerala.
Officials have designated several areas as ‘Red Zones’, restricting public movement and prohibiting drone operations to ensure maximum safety.
The restrictions cover both rural and urban pockets, including sensitive areas such as Neelambur, Chinthamanipudur, Madhukarai, Ettimadai and Walayar, where drone activity remains banned until Sunday evening.
Within the city, key stretches like Avinashi Road, Peelamedu, Singanallur and surrounding localities are under tight surveillance, with Red Zone protocols in place for 48 hours.
Authorities have deployed nearly 5,000 police personnel across the district and established a three-tier security system at the airport and nearby areas.
They are using advanced monitoring systems and strictly controlling access to sensitive zones as part of a comprehensive security plan.
The Prime Minister will arrive by air and travel by helicopter to Kerala, where political activity has intensified ahead of the April 9 Assembly elections.
During his visit, he will campaign in Palakkad and Thrissur, key constituencies for the NDA.
He is likely to address a public gathering at Fort Ground in Palakkad shortly after landing, followed by a roadshow in Thrissur later in the afternoon.
In Thrissur, he will campaign in support of Padmaja Venugopal, daughter of former Kerala Chief Minister K Karunakaran, adding further political weight to the visit.
The high-profile outreach is expected to enhance the NDA’s presence in the state as campaigning enters a decisive phase.
