On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely attend a special screening of the Hindi film ‘Chhaava’ at the Balayogi Auditorium, located within the Parliament complex.

The event will also see the presence of Cabinet ministers and several Members of Parliament.

‘Chhaava’ traces the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the Maratha ruler known for his valor and leadership.

The film has drawn attention for its compelling portrayal of historical events and characters.

The screening, taking place at the Parliament Library building, will include the entire cast and crew.

Actor Vicky Kaushal, who plays the role of Sambhaji Maharaj, will also be present.

Interest in the film surged after Prime Minister Modi praised it in a recent public speech.

While speaking at the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan last month in New Delhi, PM Modi highlighted the film’s relevance, especially its depiction of Sambhaji Maharaj’s resistance against Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that the story – based on Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel – has resonated strongly with audiences.

On 21 February, the Prime Minister stated, “It is Maharashtra and Mumbai that have elevated both Marathi and Hindi cinema. These days, Chhava is creating a buzz across the country. The portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj’s courage in this way has been inspired by Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel.”

The film has gained global recognition for its storytelling and attention to historical detail.

It brings focus to lesser-known chapters of Maratha history while maintaining a strong emotional core.

Audiences have praised the film for its gripping narrative and performances, particularly Kaushal’s role as the Maratha warrior.

Released on 14 February 2025, ‘Chhaava’ has maintained a steady run at the box office and is currently in its sixth week.
