Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency, for a two-day programme and received a ceremonial welcome at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport. Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior BJP leaders greeted him upon arrival.
The visit includes a major event titled ‘Jan-Aakrosh Mahila Sammelan’ at BLW Ground, where the Prime Minister will speak to a large gathering and launch 163 projects aimed at accelerating regional development.
After arriving, PM Modi flew by helicopter to the Bareka helipad and then moved to the guest house. He will address the gathering later in the evening.
Women are handling all aspects of the programme, including anchoring and security arrangements, reflecting a strong emphasis on women-led participation.
A large number of women and female students are expected to attend, while 44 women representatives will join the stage to discuss issues such as empowerment, safety, self-reliance and equal opportunities.
Organisers describe the programme as one of the biggest women-centric political gatherings in Kashi.
Earlier, the Prime Minister visited the Kashi Vishwanath Dham with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other leaders to offer prayers. Several senior BJP members and ministers also reached the city for the occasion.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for 163 projects valued at ₹6,332.08 crore. He will inaugurate 50 projects worth ₹1,054.69 crore and begin 113 projects costing ₹5,277.39 crore. He will also transfer ₹105 crore as a bonus to lakhs of milk producers linked to Amul.
The projects cover sectors such as roads, railway over-bridges, flyovers, healthcare, education, water supply, sanitation, sports facilities, pond rejuvenation, green energy and urban development. These initiatives aim to strengthen infrastructure in Purvanchal and support economic progress.
The Prime Minister will flag off two Amrit Bharat Express trains, one running between Banaras and Pune (Hadapsar) and another connecting Ayodhya with Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus), improving rail connectivity.
This is the Prime Minister’s 54th visit to Varanasi in the last 11 years and his first visit in 2026. He last visited the city in November 2025.
The visit highlights both women’s empowerment and a strong push for development in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
