Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held delegation-level talks at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre in Gandhinagar on Monday, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties across multiple sectors. Chancellor Merz arrived in India early on Monday to further deepen India-Germany relations.

The leaders reviewed the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, which recently completed 25 years, and discussed intensifying cooperation in trade and investment, technology, education, skilling, mobility, defence, security, science, innovation, green development, and people-to-people exchanges.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi and Chancellor Merz participated in the International Kite Festival at the Sabarmati Riverfront, experiencing the vibrancy and cultural energy of the event.

Both leaders were warmly received with traditional Gujarati scarves, folk music, and performances from across the state.

Immersing themselves in the celebrations, the two leaders flew kites, including a specially designed one carrying the message ‘Bharat — Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, symbolising India’s philosophy of the world as one family.

Some kites featured the Indian tricolour, Hindu deities, and motifs representing both leaders.

Large crowds waved Indian and German flags, reflecting the strong friendship between the two nations.

PM Modi and Chancellor Merz later visited the Sabarmati Ashram to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. They viewed an exhibition on Gandhi’s life and legacy, and the German Chancellor recorded his remarks in the visitors’ book.

PM Modi explained the cultural significance of Uttarayan and the festival’s customs, highlighting Gujarat’s rich heritage.

The visit reinforced India-Germany cooperation while showcasing India’s cultural diplomacy and the enduring bonds between the two nations.
