Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Tashkent on Saturday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The visit will allow the two leaders to explore ways to expand India-Uzbekistan cooperation and strengthen their strategic partnership.
PM Modi and President Mirziyoyev will hold delegation-level talks on trade, investment, defence, digital connectivity, energy, education and people-to-people ties.
The leaders will exchange views on their respective long-term development goals, particularly India’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision and Uzbekistan’s ‘Uzbekistan-2030’ strategy.
The discussions are likely to examine new opportunities in critical minerals, healthcare, space, technology and cultural cooperation.
During his stay in Tashkent, PM Modi is likely to visit the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet Indologists and scholars, highlighting the historical, cultural and educational links between India and Uzbekistan.
Previous Visits
The upcoming trip will mark PM Modi’s fourth visit to Uzbekistan. He previously travelled to the country in 2015 and made subsequent visits in 2016 and 2022 for SCO-related engagements.
India and Uzbekistan have maintained close relations through both bilateral and multilateral platforms over the years.
PM Modi and President Mirziyoyev have held meetings on the sidelines of several international gatherings, including COP28 in Dubai in 2023, the BRICS Summit in Kazan in 2024 and the SCO Summit in Tianjin in 2025.
Following his engagement in Uzbekistan, PM Modi will travel to Bishkek on August 31 to participate in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
The summit will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the SCO and will centre on the theme of sustainable peace, development and prosperity.
The programme will begin with a welcome dinner on August 31, followed by the summit’s plenary session the next day, where PM Modi will address the participating leaders.
